These volume changes were primarily aligned with import variations, which ranged from 2.7 million tons to 3.4 million tons annually. Domestic production remained at a modest level, averaging around 30-35 thousand tons until 2020, after which it stabilized at 27 thousand tons for the remainder of the period.

Consequently, the market's overall size was largely determined by import dynamics, with local production contributing a minor share to total supply.

Palm oil and fractions production in Eastern Africa declined after two years of growth. In 2020, production reached 26 809 tonnes, marking a 23.8% decrease from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, production fell by 14.4%, with a compound annual growth rate of 5.1%. The highest production level was recorded in 2019 at 35 171 tonnes, while the largest annual increase occurred in 2018 at 6.1%.
