The entry of specialized players like NaturSumo, focusing on 100% natural, unpasteurized juice, further diversified supply. Market volume then contracted to 36.3 million liters in 2022 and 33.4 million liters in 2023. The 2022 decline was linked to shortages and supply disruptions for juicing oranges after the national harvest season ended, forcing supermarkets like Pingo Doce to source from foreign suppliers, compounded by larger fruit calibers that hampered juicing machine use. Concurrently, the market saw growing interest in specific varieties like Laranja do Algarve and rising consumer demand for natural, 100% fruit, no-sugar-added juices using cold-pressed and HPP preservation techniques.
