The market volume followed a similar pattern, reaching 8.2 million m³ in 2023. Growth in 2022 was supported by the update of the official list of timber products by SERFOR, which reduced the number of items by 40% and aligned classifications with international terminology, facilitating trade and management. Additionally, state procurement policies boosted domestic demand for wood products.

The sector has long faced challenges from high deforestation rates, which limit sustainable wood utilization, yet both state-owned and private companies remain active in the production chain. After the 2020 decline, production recovered steadily through 2021 and 2022, reflecting improved market conditions and administrative simplifications.

From 2017 to 2020, the United States and Italy were the leading destinations for Peru's non-coniferous roundwood exports in volume terms, together accounting for 92.5% of total flows. The remaining 7.5% was distributed among other countries.
