In 2021, an unexpected surge in demand for wood for private construction and remodeling—fueled by lockdowns and migration to suburban areas—boosted consumption of roundwood. This trend continued into 2022, reinforced by the inauguration of the Acon Timber sawmill and pellet plant in Virasoro, Corrientes, which stimulated local production and attracted further forest‑industrial investment interest. However, in 2023, market volume dropped sharply as exports surged to over 4 million m³, diverting a large share of production abroad and reducing domestic availability.
