Earlier Report Observations
The Peruvian orange market volume increased from 487 thousand tons in 2018 to a peak of 583 thousand tons in 2022, driven by sustained investments in orchard productivity and quality improvements aimed at securing export markets. During this period, successful access negotiations with the United States and rising health-conscious demand in Europe, particularly from the United Kingdom, encouraged higher domestic production despite logistical constraints.
Market dynamics shifted in 2022 when the United Kingdom's exit as a primary export destination led to a sharp drop in overseas shipments. This, combined with the El Niño weather phenomenon affecting some crops, resulted in greater domestic availability and further market growth that year. By 2023, a strong recovery in exports led by the United States, alongside a minor production adjustment, brought market volume to 552 thousand tons.
Structural developments such as the certification of organic orange cultivation in Junín by Selva Industrial and the rising role of exporters like Agroindustria JAS E.I.R.L. diversified the industry. Global supply shortages in major producing countries later boosted Peruvian export values and prices, reinforcing the sector's outward orientation.
