Following a two-year decline, Portugal's molasses imports increased. In 2021, imports reached 45 477 tonnes, showing little change compared to 2020. Between 2018 and 2021, imports decreased by 24%, equivalent to an annualized rate of 8.7%. The lowest volume was recorded in 2020 at 45 400 tonnes. The most significant decline occurred in 2020, dropping by 20.3%.

During the 2018–2021 period, Egypt and Morocco were the main suppliers of molasses to Portugal in volume terms. Together, they accounted for 95.7% of total imports, with the remaining share fragmented across other countries.
