The market volume for milled rice and broken rice in Jordan fluctuated between 170 thousand tons and 220 thousand tons from 2018 to 2023. After peaking at 204.9 thousand tons in 2019, consumption declined over the next two years, falling to 170.4 thousand tons in 2021. A sharp recovery followed in 2022, with the market expanding to 220.1 thousand tons, before easing slightly to 204.2 thousand tons in 2023.

In 2021, the government's Supply Commodities Authority issued a tender for 58 companies to compete to supply approximately 35 thousand tons of white rice, reflecting policies to secure local supply through transparent competition. This structured procurement approach occurred alongside a contraction in overall market volume that year.

For the 2024/2023 season, a new tender (Practice No. 2) was released specifying import standards for white rice, including a 10% broken ratio, directed to the Food Industries Holding Company. This adjustment in import criteria coincided with import volumes rising to 274.1 thousand tons in 2024.
