Wheat and meslin market volume in Jordan showed strong fluctuations between 2018 and 2023. After reaching 1 037 thousand tonnes in 2018, it fell for two consecutive years to 789 thousand tonnes in 2020. The market then recovered to 882 thousand tonnes in 2021 and further to 949 thousand tonnes in 2022. In 2023, however, volume collapsed to 498 thousand tonnes, marking a drop of nearly 50% from the previous year.

These shifts were driven almost entirely by import dynamics, as domestic production played a minor role. Imports declined from 1 124 thousand tonnes in 2018 to 765 thousand tonnes in 2020, rose to 929 thousand tonnes by 2022, and then plummeted to 471 thousand tonnes in 2023. Production remained stable at a low level, between 16 and 27 thousand tonnes per year.
