Earlier Report Observations

The Ukrainian MDF market volume grew from 432.9 thousand m³ in 2018 to a peak of 485.7 thousand m³ in 2019, then gradually declined to 472.0 thousand m³ by 2021. During this period, domestic production saw steady increases, rising by 34% in 2021 alone to reach 220 thousand m³, while exports more than doubled that year to 205.8 thousand m³.

In 2022, the market collapsed by 50% to 237.5 thousand m³. This sharp contraction was directly caused by Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which severely disrupted supply chains, logistics, and fuel supplies for the construction materials industry. The conflict led to a 68% drop in imports and a 28% reduction in domestic production as operations were interrupted.

Market volume recovered by 31% to 311.7 thousand m³ in 2023. This rebound was supported by the adaptation of major international producers like Kronospan, SWISS KRONO, and the EGGER Group to the new logistical and operational challenges, alongside continued activity and adjustments in state industrial policy.
