Following a two-year decline, New Zealand's MDF production rebounded in 2021. The country produced 737.6 thousand cubic meters of MDF that year, marking an 8.3% increase compared to 2020. However, over the entire 2018-2021 period, production fell by 6.8%, translating to an average annual decline of 2.3%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2020 at 681.2 thousand cubic meters, which saw the sharpest drop of 9.2%.

Following a two-year downturn, New Zealand's MDF export value increased in 2021. Exports totaled 183.9 million US dollars, up 18.4% from 2020.
