The market for non-coniferous roundwood in Ukraine contracted from 6.9 million m³ in 2018 to 5.9 million m³ in 2020. This period began with key legislative initiatives: in 2018, the Verkhovna Rada supported the draft law 'On the Timber Market,' which established a legal framework and maintained the moratorium on roundwood exports. The following year, new state standards for round timber came into force, introducing European classification and altering quality requirements, which likely affected production processes temporarily.

Growth resumed in 2021 as the market reached 6.5 million m³, coinciding with the advancement of timber market reform aimed at civilised regulation and protection of domestic producers. The Association of Woodworking Enterprises of Ukraine actively advocated for preserving Ukrainian timber for local use, highlighting risks of raw material shortages. In 2022, despite military actions, the market increased to 6.7 million m³, partly due to the introduction of mandatory public online auctions for timber sales through the State Forest Resources Agency, which enhanced market transparency and accessibility.

In 2023, the market continued to grow, reaching 6.8 million m³. State forestry enterprises planned a reduction in roundwood harvesting, yet the market demonstrated resilience, still under the influence of the previous year's military events.

Ukraine's production of non-coniferous roundwood has been declining for three years in a row. In 2020, the country produced 5 880 thousand cubic meters, which represents a significant drop of 11.2% compared to the previous year. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, production fell by 17.1% overall, averaging an annual decrease of 6.1%.
