Earlier Report Observations

The MDF market in the MENA region expanded steadily from 5.3 million cubic meters in 2018 to a peak of 7.1 million cubic meters in 2021, followed by a decline to 5.8 million cubic meters in 2023. In value terms, the market reached $2.6 billion in 2021 before moderating to $2.5 billion in 2023.

The market contraction in 2023 occurred alongside a notable reduction in import volumes, which fell by over 25% compared to the previous year. During this period, the global MDF supply landscape was altered by the entry of Crossbond's new manufacturing facility in India, which introduced advanced continuous pressing technology and added significant production capacity.

In 2024, the industry saw further capacity expansions by major Indian producers and a strong focus on product innovation, including moisture-resistant and fire-retardant MDF boards. These developments, coupled with stringent formaldehyde emission standards in key export markets, are driving changes in product offerings and competitive dynamics worldwide.
