Earlier Report Observations

Hazelnut production in Turkey surged in 2019 to 776 thousand tons, a rise of over 50% from the previous year. This growth was propelled by state-backed investments to expand cultivation areas and enhance quality, supported by continuous activities of entities like Fiskobirlik and TMO, which provided price stability and financial assistance to producers.

The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 led to logistical disruptions and export challenges, causing production to fall to 665 thousand tons. State support measures, including TMO's protective purchase prices, helped cushion the impact, while a consumer shift towards healthy snacks boosted demand for in-shell hazelnuts. In 2021, production recovered slightly to 684 thousand tons with the introduction of new product segments such as salted and roasted in-shell hazelnuts, despite ongoing global supply chain issues.

Production climbed to 765 thousand tons in 2022 despite climate-related yield fluctuations, aided by state subsidies on diesel and fertilizers that reduced farming costs. However, in 2023, output declined to 650 thousand tons due to low-yield seasons and global price pressures. Throughout the period, TMO's annual price determinations and Fiskobirlik's marketing efforts provided stability, while digital platforms and consumer preference for natural products influenced sales trends.
