Earlier Report Observations

The Turkish almond market volume grew from 112.8 тыс. т in 2018 to 215.4 тыс. т in 2022, driven by sustained government support. Subsidies for certified saplings increased from 50 TL to 400 TL per decare over this period, directly incentivizing the expansion of almond cultivation areas. Enhanced coordination among nurseries, growers, processors, and research institutions from 2020 onward further boosted productivity and output.

Export-focused strategies, particularly targeting the Iraqi market, provided additional outlets for production, while generally robust domestic demand allowed producers to sell easily despite rising prices in 2021 and 2022. This combination of policy support and market access underpinned the steady market expansion.

In 2023, the market volume contracted by 7.5% to 199.2 тыс. т, and its value fell sharply by 24.7% to $985 million. This reversal was primarily due to continued almond price increases, which dampened consumer purchasing and reduced overall consumption, outweighing the continued ease of sales for producers.
