Earlier Report Observations

The in-shell almond market in the CIS region demonstrated substantial growth from 2018 to 2023, with market volume increasing from 26 thousand tons to 42 thousand tons, a rise of over 60%. This expansion was not linear, featuring a sharp surge in 2020 to 38.6 thousand tons, followed by a slight dip in 2021, a new peak of 45.4 thousand tons in 2022, and a moderate correction to 42.3 thousand tons in 2023.

In value terms, the market mirrored this volatile trajectory, growing from $87.6 million in 2018 to $176.3 million in 2023, albeit with notable fluctuations. The most pronounced value increase occurred in 2020, reaching $186.6 million, suggesting a period of higher unit prices or a shift in product mix alongside volume growth.

The supply structure evolved during this period, with domestic production rising from 26 thousand tons to 38 thousand tons and imports experiencing a notable uptick, particularly from 2022 onwards. This increased import flow, reaching 3.9 thousand tons in 2022 and 4.8 thousand tons in 2023, significantly supplemented domestic supply and was a key component of the overall market volume expansion in those years.
