The market for homogenised jams, jellies, marmalades, purées and pastes in Western Asia expanded significantly from 2018 to 2023, more than doubling from 11.8 thousand tons to 26.5 thousand tons. This growth was primarily driven by a sustained increase in imports, which rose from 8.7 thousand tons to nearly 19.8 thousand tons over the same period.

Domestic production also showed positive momentum, growing from 4.9 thousand tons to 7.5 thousand tons, although with a notable dip in 2022. A decline in export shipments, which fell from 1.8 thousand tons to 0.8 thousand tons, further contributed to the larger volume of product available for domestic consumption.

After sharp increases in 2019 and 2020, the pace of market expansion moderated but remained positive, indicating a maturing yet still growing demand for these products in the region.

In 2020, the region produced 6 678 tonnes, marking a significant 25.8% increase from the previous year. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, production surged by 130.8%, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 32.2%.

In 2020, the value of homogenised jams, jellies, marmalades, purées and pastes output in Western Asia reached 13 866 thousand US dollars, showing a sharp 44.4% rise compared to 2019. From 2017 to 2020, production value grew by 77.2%, averaging 21.0% per year. The most notable decline occurred in 2019, with a drop of 6.7%.

In 2020, exports totalled 1 536 tonnes, down 19.7% from 1 913 tonnes in 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports fell by 13.1%, with a compound annual growth rate of -4.6%. The largest increase was recorded in 2019 at 7.8%.

An analysis of export volumes from 2017 to 2020 reveals a wide distribution across many markets. The Netherlands accounted for 15.3% of exports, the United States for 8.8%, and Egypt for 8.5%, together making up 32.6% of total flows. The remaining 67.4% was spread among numerous other partners.

Western Asia's export value of homogenised jams, jellies, marmalades, purées and pastes has decreased for the third consecutive year. In 2020, exports amounted to 3 190 thousand US dollars, a 7.9% decline from 2019. Between 2017 and 2020, export value dropped by 33.3%, averaging a 12.6% annual decrease.

The structure of export values from 2017 to 2020 indicates a diversified partner base. The United States contributed 16.0% of export value, Egypt 10.0%, and the Netherlands 5.5%, collectively accounting for 31.5% of total flows. The other 68.5% was distributed across many smaller markets.

In 2020, imports reached 15 856 tonnes, a robust 15.6% increase from the previous year. From 2017 to 2020, import volume grew by 190.3%, with an average annual growth rate of 42.6%.

From 2017 to 2020, Iran dominated imports in volume, accounting for 52.8%, followed by Czechia at 8.2% and Poland at 3.9%. Together, these three markets represented 64.9% of total import flows.

After two years of growth, Western Asia's import value of homogenised jams, jellies, marmalades, purées and pastes declined. In 2020, imports totalled 31 381 thousand US dollars, a slight 0.8% decrease from 31 628 thousand US dollars in 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, import value increased by 80%, averaging 21.7% per year. The largest rise was in 2018 at 43.7%.
