From 2018 to 2020, the fruit and vegetable juice market in Western Asia expanded in volume from 1.1 billion liters to 1.4 billion liters, while its value grew from $1.7 billion to $2.0 billion. This increase was supported by new opportunities for local companies to import fruits and manufacture juices for both the domestic market and export to the Middle East and North Africa region. Furthermore, Egypt's successful opening of new export markets for fruits and vegetables, including China and the EU, along with the removal of agricultural export bans, enhanced raw material availability and stimulated juice production.

After peaking in 2020, the market volume contracted to 1.2 billion liters in 2021, though its value remained above $1.4 billion. In the following years, the 2022 launch of new vegetable juices and herbal drinks by Thailand's Tipco Company in Middle Eastern markets introduced innovative products and intensified competition. By 2023, increased digitization in the fruit and vegetable supply chain, coupled with growing consumer demand for healthy and convenient packaged juices, drove the market value to $1.9 billion, despite a slight dip in physical volumes due to challenges like product waste and higher prices for organic options.

After two years of decline, fruit and vegetable juice production in Western Asia rebounded. In 2020, production reached 1 498 million liters, marking a significant 36.0% increase from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, production grew by 13.8%, with a compound annual growth rate of 4.4%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2019 at 1 102 million liters, which also saw the largest decline of 13.5%.

Western Asia's fruit and vegetable juice production value increased for the third consecutive year. In 2020, output was valued at 2 097 million US dollars, up 2.0% from the previous year. From 2017 to 2020, production value rose by 28.3%, translating to an 8.7% compound annual growth rate.

Exports fruit and vegetable juices from Western Asia

Following a two-year contraction, cross-border shipments of fruit and vegetable juices from Western Asia expanded. In 2020, exports totaled 743.8 million liters, representing a 30.1% increase compared to 2019. However, over the 2017-2020 period, exports decreased by 15.8%, equivalent to an annualized decline of 5.6%. The lowest export volume was recorded in 2019 at 571.7 million liters, which also experienced the largest decline of 25.3%.

From 2017 to 2020, fruit and vegetable juice exports from Western Asia were distributed across numerous countries. The United States accounted for 8.7% of exports in volume, the Netherlands for 4.9%, and China for 4.4%. Together, these three countries represented only 18.0% of total export flows.

The value of fruit and vegetable juice exports from Western Asia declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, exports amounted to 1 041 million US dollars, showing a slight decrease of 2.4% compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, export value fell by 5.1%, with an annualized decline of 1.7%. The peak value was recorded in 2018 at 1 145 million US dollars, which also saw the largest increase of 4.4%. The largest decline occurred in 2019, with a drop of 6.8%.

Analysis of export values from 2017 to 2020 reveals a broad distribution across many markets. The United States accounted for 11.2% of export value, the Netherlands for 6.5%, and Japan for 5.0%. Combined, these three countries represented just 22.7% of total flows, while the remaining 77.3% was distributed among numerous other trading partners.

Western Asia imported 624.7 million liters of fruit and vegetable juices in 2020, a decrease of 7.8% from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, imports declined by 27%, with a compound annual decrease of 9.9%. The lowest import volume was recorded in 2018 at 623.9 million liters, which also experienced the largest decline of 27.1%. The largest increase occurred in 2019, with an 8.6% rise.

From 2017 to 2020, fruit and vegetable juice imports to Western Asia relied on a diverse range of partner countries. India accounted for 4.9% of imports in volume, Thailand for 4.8%, and Iran for 4.4%. Together, these three countries represented just 14.2% of total import flows.

Brazil accounted for 6.3% of import value, the Netherlands for 6.3%, and India for 4.9%.
