Earlier Report Observations

The market for homogenised jams, jellies, marmalades, purées and pastes in Oceania contracted significantly from 3 850 tonnes in 2018 to 1 750 tonnes in 2023. This overall decline of over 50% was not uniform, with the market experiencing a sharp drop to 2 922 tonnes in 2019, a partial recovery to 3 322 tonnes in 2020, and then a steady downward trend through the following years.

Domestic production fell from 2 604 tonnes to 2 059 tonnes over the six-year period, while imports also decreased from 1 738 tonnes to 1 326 tonnes. Concurrently, export volumes rose notably, particularly in 2022 and 2023 when they exceeded 1 600 tonnes annually, which further reduced the volume available for domestic consumption and contributed to the shrinking market size.
