From 2018 to 2022, Tajikistan's grape market experienced overall growth in production and domestic volume. The expansion of vineyard area and improved energy supply following a renewed agreement for Uzbek gas supported agricultural output, helping production rise from 241.9 thousand tons in 2018 to 301.1 thousand tons in 2022. This increase drove the market size from 223.0 thousand tons to 259.2 thousand tons over the period, despite a minor dip in 2020 and a significant rise in exports in 2022.

A severe contraction occurred in 2023 when extreme winter frosts in late 2022 destroyed a large share of grape plantations, slashing production to 190.4 thousand tons and reducing the domestic market volume to 179.0 thousand tons. In response, the government approved a state program for the development of horticulture and viticulture in 2024, aimed at restoring vineyards and boosting the sector's export potential.

Tajikistan's grape production saw a decline after two consecutive years of growth. In 2019, production reached its peak at 247.2 thousand tons, but then fell by 3.3% to 239.1 thousand tons in 2020. Over the 2017-2020 period, overall production increased by 4.7%, with an average annual growth rate of 1.6%. The most significant year-on-year increase occurred in 2018, when production rose by 6.0%.

Tajikistan's grape production value increased for the second year in a row. In 2020, the output was valued at 46 964 thousand US dollars, marking a 3.1% increase compared to the previous year. The lowest value was recorded in 2018 at 36 132 thousand US dollars, which represented a substantial decline of 21.8% from the prior year. However, this was followed by a strong recovery in 2019, with a 26.1% increase in value.

After two years of decline, Tajikistan's grape exports showed a modest recovery. In 2019, exports hit their lowest point at 9 086 tons, representing a sharp 51.9% drop from the previous year. In 2020, exports increased slightly by 1.6% to reach 9 231 tons. Over the 2017-2020 period, total exports decreased by 53.9%, which translates to an average annual decline of 22.8%.

Between 2017 and 2020, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan were the main destinations for Tajikistan's grape exports by volume. Pakistan accounted for 41.7% of exports, Kazakhstan for 28.5%, and Kyrgyzstan for 26.4%. Together, these three countries represented 96.5% of all export flows during this period.

Following two years of decline, Tajikistan's grape export value began to rise again. In 2019, exports reached their lowest point at 1 675 thousand US dollars, after a significant 40.7% decrease from the previous year. In 2020, exports increased by 8.2% to 1 813 thousand US dollars. Over the 2017-2020 period, total export value fell by 55.2%, with an average annual decline of 23.5%.

From 2017 to 2020, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Pakistan remained the principal buyers of Tajikistan's grapes by value. Kazakhstan accounted for 30.7% of export value, Kyrgyzstan for 28.8%, and Pakistan for 27.6%. Collectively, these three markets represented 87.1% of total export value during this timeframe.
