In 2018, grape production reached a decade-high of 730.2 thousand tonnes, supported by an exceptional harvest and investments in vineyard expansion for protected geographical indication wines. However, output fell over the next two years, though export sales of the dominant 'Moldova' variety remained strong, reaching new destinations including Poland and the United Arab Emirates.

Production began to recover from 2021 onward, fueled by steady export demand. Access to CIS markets, especially Russia, supported shipments, and winter-spring exports exceeded 25 000 tonnes in 2022 due to the long-storage qualities of the 'Moldova' grape. By 2023, Moldova was exporting grapes to 33 countries, with growing volumes to the European Union.

The year 2024 saw record exports of table grapes to the EU, doubling from the previous year, facilitated by expanded quotas under the DCFTA agreement. Meanwhile, the share of the Russian market plummeted. Extreme temperatures in spring and summer reduced the harvest by an estimated 35%, driving domestic prices to record levels as external demand squeezed local supply.

Moldova's grape production declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the country produced 462.1 thousand tonnes of grapes, which represents a 29.9% decrease compared to 2019. From 2017 to 2020, production fell by 31.6%, averaging an annual decline of 11.9%. The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 730.2 thousand tonnes, with the largest year-on-year increase of 8.2% also occurring that year.

In 2020, Moldova exported 41 299 tonnes of grapes, marking a 34.2% decline from the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, exports decreased by 48.5%, with an average annual reduction of 19.9%. The largest decline was recorded in 2018 at 40.0%, while the largest increase occurred in 2019 with a 30.4% rise.

From 2017 to 2020, Russia, Romania, and Ukraine were the top destinations for Moldova's grape exports by volume. Russia accounted for 52.0% of exports, Romania for 24.3%, and Ukraine for 7.9%. Together, these three countries represented 84.3% of total export flows.

In 2020, Moldova's grape exports were valued at 26 911 thousand US dollars, reflecting a 9.4% decrease compared to 2019. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, export value declined by 30.3%, with an average annual decrease of 11.3%. The lowest value was recorded in 2018 at 25 128 thousand US dollars, which also saw the largest decline of 34.9%. In contrast, 2019 experienced the largest increase of 18.2%.

Between 2017 and 2020, Russia, Romania, and Belarus led the structure of Moldova's grape exports by value. Russia accounted for 40.1% of export value, Romania for 35.2%, and Belarus for 8.5%. Collectively, these three countries represented 83.8% of total export flows.

The largest decline occurred in 2018 with a 13.5% drop, and the largest increase was in 2019 with a 29.7% rise.
