Between 2018 and 2020, Slovak grape production showed considerable volatility, starting at 52 420 t before dropping to 43 040 t in 2019. This sharp decline was primarily a result of the continuing reduction in bearing vineyard area and the lowest grape harvest in recent years, which pushed grower profitability to a critical point. The market rebounded in 2020, with production reaching 46 920 t, driven by the highest recorded harvest and yield per hectare within the period.

From 2021 onward, the market was shaped by intense import pressure and evolving demand. Production fell to 44 070 t in 2021 as domestic growers faced sales difficulties due to uncontrolled inflows of cheaper grapes and wine, particularly from Hungary. Although output slightly recovered to 44 840 t in 2022, grape prices remained at or below the cost of production, while imports exceeded double the domestic volume. In 2023, production decreased again to 40 700 t, reflecting an anticipated 40% smaller harvest and a clear shift in consumer preferences toward aromatic varieties and dry wines.

In 2019, Slovakia's grape production reached its lowest point at 43 040 tonnes. The following year, in 2020, production rose to 46 920 tonnes, marking a modest increase of 9.0% compared to 2019. Looking at the broader period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 2.3%, with an average annual growth rate of 0.8%. The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 52 420 tonnes, which represented a significant increase of 14.3% from the previous year. Conversely, the largest decline occurred in 2019, when production fell by 17.9%.

In 2019, the value of grape production in Slovakia hit a low of 91.3 million US dollars. By 2020, this value had climbed to 107.4 million US dollars, reflecting a notable increase of 17.6% year-over-year. Over the four-year span from 2017 to 2020, the total value of production rose by 14.4%, with a compound annual growth rate of 4.6%. The peak value was achieved in 2018 at 114.1 million US dollars, which saw a substantial rise of 21.5%. In contrast, the most significant drop occurred in 2019, with a decrease of 20.0%.

Slovakia's grape exports have been declining for three consecutive years. In 2020, exports totaled 2 425 tonnes, representing a sharp year-over-year decrease of 30.4%. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, exports fell by 37.4%, with an average annual decline of 14.5%.

From 2017 to 2020, Slovakia's grape exports in volume terms were primarily directed towards Czechia and Hungary. Together, these two countries accounted for 92.1% of total export flows, while other destinations played a minor role.

For the third year in a row, Slovakia's grape exports in value terms have decreased. In 2020, exports amounted to 5 551 thousand US dollars, showing a significant year-over-year decline of 24.9%. Between 2017 and 2020, the total value of exports dropped by 30%, with an average annual decrease of 11.2%.
