The market then entered a downward phase, contracting to 47 455 t in 2021 and plummeting to 31 890 t in 2022. This decline coincided with a substantial drop in domestic grape production in 2022, which directly reduced the available market volume.

By 2023, the market partially rebounded to 34 504 t. Over the entire 2018-2023 period, the sector maintained its concentration in Herzegovina, relying on indigenous grape varieties such as Žilavka and Blatina and ongoing producer efforts to improve quality through the adoption of international standards like HACCP and ISO.
