Earlier Report Observations

The grape juice market in Western Europe experienced significant volume fluctuations between 2018 and 2023. Market size reached a peak of 259 million liters in 2019 before entering a steady decline, falling to 201 million liters by 2023. Early in the period, the broader fruit juice market saw softened consumption in large retailers, with a noted consumer shift toward pure juices rather than concentrates.

Domestic production surged to 88 million liters in 2021. From 2022, the market was pressured by sharply rising production costs, where fruit inputs constituting 60–80% of expenses drove up retail prices and reduced commercial volumes. A European policy of subsidized vine grubbing led to a scarcity of grapes for juice, limiting raw material supply and further elevating costs.

High costs and price increases continued to constrain the market in 2023. By 2024, new demand trends emerged, including growing interest in chilled organic grape juice variants and sustainable packaging solutions like 100% recycled PET. However, persistent grape shortages and elevated production costs continued to challenge manufacturers.
