Earlier Report Observations

The market volume for prepared sweetcorn in Western Asia showed considerable volatility from 2018 to 2023. After reaching a peak of 52 000 t in 2020, the market size contracted sharply to 42 800 t in 2021. A partial recovery to 47 600 t followed in 2022, but another decline brought the volume down to 40 800 t in 2023.

These fluctuations were primarily driven by changes in import volumes, which constitute the bulk of supply. Imports fell from 50 200 t in 2020 to 43 700 t in 2021, coinciding with the market contraction. Meanwhile, exports grew steadily from 1 200 t in 2020 to 6 400 t in 2023, reducing the net volume available domestically. Local production remained at a modest scale, declining from 3 000 t to 2 000 t over the period.
