Earlier Report Observations

Between 2018 and 2019, the volume of the fruit and vegetable juice market in the Dominican Republic increased from 49 542 thousand liters to 54 336 thousand liters. This growth was supported by the opening of the market for organic production at a time of low prices for conventional products, which boosted both domestic and external demand, particularly in Europe. Growing consumer awareness of the need for healthy foods also favored the expansion of the organic juice segment, while the emerging domestic market, including urban consumers and the tourism sector, provided additional demand.

Market volume then contracted to 45 869 thousand liters in 2020 and further to 40 041 thousand liters in 2021. In value terms, the market declined to 52.6 million US dollars in 2020 before recovering slightly to 54.3 million US dollars in 2021.

A sharp rebound occurred in 2022, with market volume jumping to 58 765 thousand liters, a 46.8% increase over the previous year. This surge was accompanied by regulatory and labeling reforms that improved transparency and traceability for juice products. At the same time, local production and exports expanded, led by Dominican firms such as Profruveca and Consorcio Cítricos Dominicano, and the vegetable juice segment gained market share, attracting new consumers. In 2023, volume receded to 53 887 thousand liters, even as tourism arrivals reached 10.3 million and consumer preference for natural, healthy products remained strong.
