The Hungarian fruit and vegetable juice market experienced substantial growth from 2018 to 2022, with its volume increasing from 67.7 million liters to a high of 102.4 million liters. This expansion was interrupted in 2023 when the market contracted to 78.2 million liters, a level comparable to earlier years in the period.

The market's peak in 2022 coincided with a shift in consumer preferences towards healthier, natural beverages and the launch of new product segments like fortified juices and fruit-vegetable blends. These developments stimulated domestic demand, while increased online retail presence made these products more widely available to Hungarian consumers.

Following the 2022 peak, the market volume corrected downwards in 2023, ending the period of sustained growth.

The following year saw a rebound, with exports rising to 89 830 thousand liters in 2021, up 15.6% from 2020. Over the 2018-2021 period, exports overall decreased by 9.3%, averaging an annual decline of 3.2%.

From 2018 to 2021, Austria, Slovakia, and Czechia were the key destinations for Hungary's fruit and vegetable juice exports in volume terms. Austria accounted for 36.0% of exports, Slovakia for 7.6%, and Czechia for 7.3%, together making up 51.0% of total export flows.

Hungary's fruit and vegetable juice exports in value terms expanded after two years of contraction. In 2019, exports experienced their largest decline, falling 18.1%. They then dropped to a low of 89.9 million US dollars in 2020. However, 2021 brought a significant recovery, with exports climbing to 114.3 million US dollars—a 27.2% increase from the previous year. Between 2018 and 2021, exports grew by 3.9%, averaging an annual rise of 1.3%.

Between 2018 and 2021, Austria, Germany, and the United States dominated Hungary's fruit and vegetable juice exports in value terms. Austria led with 33.6% of exports, followed by Germany at 11.0%, and the United States at 8.7%. Together, these three countries represented 53.4% of total export value.

Imports fruit and vegetable juices to Hungary

They then dipped by 4.5% in 2020 before rising again in 2021, with imports reaching a total that marked a 7.0% increase over the previous year. Overall, from 2018 to 2021, imports grew by 22%, averaging an annual increase of 6.9%.

From 2018 to 2021, Poland, Austria, and Germany were the main sources for Hungary's fruit and vegetable juice imports in volume terms. Poland supplied 24.5% of imports, Austria 20.1%, and Germany 16.8%, together accounting for 61.4% of total import flows.
