Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2020, the fresh grape market in Kyrgyzstan contracted from 32 438 tons to 18 517 tons, primarily due to declining imports. Domestic production, however, rose from 8 774 tons to 9 268 tons over the same period, supported by state measures such as the Export Development Program for 2019-2022 and a moratorium on business inspections. The sector also saw vineyard area expansion, particularly in Batken Region, and the launch of digital tools via the Agroportal to assist grape growers.

The market rebounded to 28 937 tons in 2021, driven by a surge in imports, while exports peaked at 7 584 tons supported by continued state credit programs and the activation of young entrepreneurs in viticulture. In subsequent years, market volume gradually declined to 22 018 tons by 2023. Legislative changes, including amendments to the Land Code and a tax amnesty, aimed to improve conditions for producers, though production volumes decreased. Growing grape imports from China began influencing domestic competition.

In 2024, grape imports from China rose by 82%, further shaping the market structure. The industry continued to receive state support through the supply of quality planting material, including the import of 60 000 seedlings from Serbia. For 2025, the sector is marked by sustainable development with increased harvests, backed by ongoing access to planting materials and financial measures.
