Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2020, hazelnut production in Kyrgyzstan increased from 4 255 t to 4 418 t, while market volume grew from 4 274 t to 4 445 t. This growth was supported by the development of the country's stock market, which facilitated investments in agriculture after the introduction of a commodity-raw materials sector on the Kyrgyz Stock Exchange. At the same time, hazelnut exports began to rise, reaching new regional markets such as Azerbaijan, Russia, Uzbekistan, and China, which encouraged production expansion and the entry of new players.

After a period of stabilization in 2021, when production slightly eased to 4 331 t and market volume held steady around 4 430 t, the market resumed growth in 2022. Production reached 4 356 t and market volume climbed to 4 603 t, partly driven by state-led initiatives. The establishment of the 'Kyrgyzindustry' holding with a capital of 1 billion soms aimed at boosting processing industries, including hazelnut production, while ongoing stock market development continued to attract agricultural investments.

In 2023, production advanced further to 4 368 t, supported by a sharp surge in export activity—first-quarter shipments multiplied 3.4 times year-on-year. However, overall market volume dipped to 4 491 t as imports fell from the previous year’s level. The export-oriented momentum underscored the sector’s increasing integration into regional trade flows.
