The market for fresh edible brassicas in Mali was initially influenced by state regulation through the Office des Produits Agricoles du Mali (OPAM) and an interventionist trade policy. In 2019, market volume declined to 78 477 metric tons, partly due to the poorly structured agro-processing sector and competition from imported goods. The introduction of the Autorisation de Mise sur le Marché (AMM) in 2020, which ensured food safety standards, helped restore consumer confidence and contributed to a market volume increase to 88 117 metric tons that year.

A sharp rise in prices of essential goods in 2021 reduced consumption, pulling market volume down to 77 738 metric tons. However, in 2022, price stabilization measures, including the imposition of price ceilings, and distribution regulation by the Direction Générale du Commerce, de la Consommation et de la Concurrence (DGCC) to prevent shortages supported a recovery to 83 542 metric tons. By 2023, active trade and sustained demand for cabbage, reinforced by awareness campaigns on labeling and packaging led by the Redecoma, drove market volume further to 92 957 metric tons.
