The market volume for fresh edible brassicas in Greece declined substantially from 142.8 thousand tons in 2018 to 78.2 thousand tons in 2023. After a sharp contraction in 2019, consumption showed a brief stabilization in 2020 before falling steadily through the following years.

By 2024, the sector was influenced by shifting consumer preferences toward fresh, organic, and seasonal produce. Upcoming legislation will ban plastic packaging for fresh fruits and vegetables under 1.5 kg from 2030, while international factors such as the war in the Middle East contributed to price increases for fresh vegetables. Greek producers also increased their promotion at international trade fairs to boost exports.

In 2020, Greece produced 120 460 tonnes of edible brassicas, marking a 1.1% increase compared to the previous year. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, overall production declined by 5.1%, which translates to an average annual decrease of 1.7%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2019 at 119 100 tonnes, while the highest was in 2018 at 145 390 tonnes. The most significant drop occurred in 2019 with an 18.1% decrease, whereas the largest rise was in 2018 with a 14.6% increase.

Greece's exports of edible brassicas declined for the second year in a row. In 2020, exports totaled 3 760 tonnes, representing a 13.8% decrease from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports grew by 6%, with a compound annual growth rate of 2.0%. The peak export volume was in 2018 at 5 948 tonnes. The most substantial decline happened in 2019 with a 26.7% drop, while the largest increase was in 2018 with a 67.7% rise.

From 2017 to 2020, Bulgaria, Romania, and Cyprus were the key partners for Greece's exports of edible brassicas in volume terms. Bulgaria accounted for 44.6% of exports, Romania for 25.7%, and Cyprus for 10.7%. Together, these three countries made up 81.0% of total export flows.

After two years of growth, Greece's edible brassicas exports in value terms saw a decline. In 2020, exports reached 1 751 thousand US dollars, down 6.2% from the year before. Over the 2017-2020 span, exports increased by 15.8%, with a compound annual growth rate of 5.0%. The highest value was recorded in 2019 at 1 865 thousand US dollars. The most significant increase occurred in 2018 with a 22.3% rise.

Between 2017 and 2020, Cyprus, Bulgaria, and Romania were the top contributors to Greece's edible brassicas exports in value terms. Cyprus held 27.4% of exports, Bulgaria 19.5%, and Romania 16.5%. Collectively, these three partners accounted for 63.4% of total export value.
