Earlier Report Observations

The market for fresh or chilled edible brassicas in Egypt began the period at 548 thousand tons in 2018 and rose sharply to 636 thousand tons in 2019. This expansion was supported by the country's push for greater self-sufficiency in fruit and vegetable production, alongside rising urbanization and disposable income that encouraged healthier diets including fresh produce.

After a contraction to 585 thousand tons in 2020, the market stabilized over the next two years, reaching 602 thousand tons in 2022.

A pronounced surge followed in 2023, with volume jumping to 733 thousand tons. This leap coincided with vegetable prices stabilizing at low levels due to strong supply ahead of Ramadan, as well as the rollout of a farm coding system designed to improve export quality and open new markets. Furthermore, the expansion of agricultural land into new desert areas free from soil diseases contributed to higher production capacity.
