From 2018 to 2020, aubergine production in Mali increased from 80.5 thousand tons to 99.8 thousand tons. This growth was supported by the state-owned Office des Produits Agricoles du Mali (OPAM), which regulates and stores agricultural produce, alongside the expansion of urban gardening in Bamako's outskirts, boosting local supply. Government policies promoting agricultural mechanization and producer support further contributed. In 2019, the rise of soilless organic gardening and international funding for agricultural modernization enhanced production efficiency, while a shift toward sustainable practices and climate resilience initiatives in 0 supported the significant volume jump.

Production dipped to 92.8 thousand tons in 2021. It then rebounded to 106.8 thousand tons in 2022, driven by the Mali Chamber of Commerce and Industry's campaigns to encourage local consumption and strengthened policies supporting agricultural entrepreneurship and fresh produce marketing, which facilitated the entry of new players into the market. In 2023, production saw a slight decrease to 105.6 thousand tons.
