Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2021, the dried eggs market volume in Sub-Saharan Africa expanded significantly, rising from 2 112 t to a peak of 4 552 t. This growth was primarily driven by surges in imports, which jumped from 1 584 t to 3 872 t over the same period, while domestic production remained relatively stable.

After the 2021 peak, the market contracted over the next two years, falling to 3 855 t in 2022 and then to 2 557 t in 2023. This decline coincided with a reduction in imports, which dropped to 1 786 t in 2023, even as local production saw minor fluctuations.

In 2024, imports rebounded to 3 407 t. Market dynamics were influenced by high feed costs and inflation pressuring poultry farmers, increased demand from humanitarian nutrition programs like expanded school meals, and a growing global trend toward shelf-stable egg products.
