After a stabilization in 2021 at 526 t, the market expanded again to 656 t in 2022 and 731 t in 2023. This growth was fueled by the implementation of a ban on battery-caged eggs effective from 2023, which caused a significant drop in local egg supply. A fire at Zeagold laying sheds that killed 50 000 birds and higher feed costs linked to global events created additional supply constraints, boosting imports of dried eggs to meet sustained consumer demand.
