Between 2019 and 2022, the Austrian market volume for coffee extracts, essences and concentrates remained stable in physical terms, fluctuating around 12,300–12,800 t annually. In value terms, however, the market grew significantly from 48 million $ to nearly 63 million $, indicating a rise in average product prices or a shift toward higher-value segments.

Domestic production increased from 10,240 t in 2019 to 11,976 t in 2022, while exports rose from 3,532 t to 5,563 t over the same period. Imports slightly declined, contributing to a greater share of domestic supply. By 2024, established customs duties and coffee taxes remained in effect, and consumer preferences continued shifting toward sustainable and convenient formats like liquid concentrates, which stimulated product innovation.

Global factors such as climate change and harvest disruptions in key producing countries influenced raw coffee prices, affecting production costs. The growing out-of-home market also supported demand for practical coffee products, including extracts and concentrates.
