The Jordanian chicken meat market began the period with an expansion in cold chain infrastructure, as Soguna opened a 25-ton cold storage facility in 2018, supporting ready-to-eat chicken supply. However, market volume fell to 230 thousand tons in 2019 as poultry production declined due to adverse weather conditions and disease outbreaks on farms, reducing domestic supply. A recovery followed in 2020, with market volume reaching 241 thousand tons, supported by the Ministry of Agriculture reporting that poultry supplies exceeded 80% of domestic consumption, indicating rising self-sufficiency levels that helped stabilize the market despite temporary summer heatwaves causing bird mortality.

Market volume surged sharply to 307 thousand tons in 2021, driven by strong consumer demand and rising chicken prices, which prompted the government to impose a full price ceiling on whole chicken to manage retail costs. This growth was further sustained by increased domestic production and imports. In 2022, the market expanded to 317 thousand tons after the Ministry of Agriculture cancelled the decision to import frozen red meat, restricting red meat imports to only fresh and chilled beef and lamb. This policy shift increased demand for chicken as a substitute protein, supporting market growth while authorities tightened controls on thawing and selling frozen meat as fresh to curb fraudulent practices.

Market volume contracted to 243 thousand tons in 2023, as both domestic production and imports decreased significantly. Although the Department of Statistics recorded a notable rise in chicken meat production in the fourth quarter of 2023 due to improved processing efficiency and higher hatchery egg output, this was insufficient to offset the overall annual decline. During the year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade set price ceilings for chicken pieces to stabilize prices following earlier inflation. Looking ahead to 2024, authorities launched the 'Khaleeha Tqaqqi' campaign to narrow price gaps across regions and opened imports of chilled veal from Egypt and fresh lamb from Syria to diversify protein supplies and ease price pressures, while exchange rate fluctuations increased feed import costs, adding to production expenses.

In 2019, it reached a minimum of 527.5 million US dollars, declining by 15.2% from 2018's peak of 622.0 million US dollars. By 2020, production value recovered to 606.4 million US dollars, a substantial 15.0% increase year-over-year. Over the 2017-2020 period, overall production value grew by 7.1%, averaging a 2.3% annual growth rate.

By 2020, exports recovered to 10 844 tons, marking a 10.3% year-over-year increase. From 2017 to 2020, total exports grew by 47.7%, with a compound annual growth rate of 13.9%.

Iraq accounted for 30.5% of exports in volume, Saudi Arabia for 19.1%, and Free Zones for 11.7%. Together, these destinations represented 61.4% of Jordan's total exports in kind during this period.
