Earlier Report Observations

Between 2018 and 2020, chicken meat production in Turkey remained around 2.1 million tons, with market volume showing slight fluctuations. Initial constraints included insufficient slaughterhouse capacity and drought conditions in 2018, followed by persistently high feed and energy costs in 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 further led to stagnation in production and supply chains, keeping output flat.

From 2021, production entered a growth phase, reaching 2.4 million tons in 2022. This expansion was driven by Turkey's competitive position in international markets, which boosted exports, and a significant rise in per capita consumption to 20.6 kg by 2022. However, the sector continued to face elevated feed prices and energy costs, while an export ban and its subsequent removal introduced price volatility.

In 2023, production eased to 2.3 million tons as high costs and inflationary pressures weighed on the industry. Structural issues such as logistics infrastructure and slaughterhouse capacity remained challenges. For 2024, factors indicate continued growth in production and exports, albeit under the persistent burden of high input costs for feed, energy, and labor.
