The cassava market in Angola exhibited steady growth from 2018 to 2023, with volume expanding from 8.7 million t to 11.2 million t. This upward trajectory was initially supported by cassava's fundamental role as a food staple and by government efforts to attract private sector investment, improve land reform, and stimulate local production frameworks.

A major inflection point arrived in 2020 with the launch of a national industrialization drive focused on starch production, including the creation of rural industrial clusters in key growing regions like Cacuso. This initiative, coupled with FAO support to integrate smallholder farmers, provided a direct boost to output. The growth momentum was maintained through subsequent years by sustained technical assistance and microfinancing programs, alongside the rising contribution of commercial agriculture.

By the 2023-2024 period, the focus shifted towards deepening processing capacity. Government incentives spurred the emergence of small and medium-scale rural processing industries, leading to record levels of processed cassava output and a sharp rise in starch production. Authorities are actively working with business associations to develop export-oriented starch manufacturing, although small producers continue to highlight challenges in accessing adequate support.
