After a decline to 4.16 million tonnes in 2020, the market volume stabilized and gradually recovered, reaching 4.35 million tonnes by 2022.

In 2023, production rose to 4.45 million tonnes, driven by substantial government subsidies for fertilizers and quality planting materials, alongside projects to build modern processing units, such as those in Kétou involving the state-owned SoNaMA, which aimed to add value through local transformation and develop new segments like cassava starch.
