The potato was officially designated a priority value chain under the Commercial Agriculture Development Program (PDAC) in early 2022, unlocking business plans and bank financing for farmers. This was complemented by the launch of the PLANAGRÃO program in July 2022, a national plan to boost grain and tuber production through direct investment, which helped drive the market volume past 505 thousand tons that year.

By 2023, the market's expansion pace moderated to 509 thousand tons amid a 12.66% increase in retail prices, reflecting cost pressures from inputs and currency impacts.
