The Turkish apricot market volume showed a clear upward spike in 2019, reaching 779 thousand tonnes and marking a significant rise from the previous year. This peak was followed by a multi-year contraction that brought the market size back to near its 2018 level by the end of 2023.

After the 2019 high, domestic market volume declined gradually through 2023. This reduction coincided with lower production outputs after 2019 and a notable surge in export volumes, which exceeded 96 thousand tonnes in 2022 before moderating in the following year.

In 2020, Turkey produced 833.4 thousand tons of apricots, a decrease of 1.6% compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production fell by 15.4%, with a compound annual growth rate of -5.4%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2018 at 750.0 thousand tons. The sharpest decline occurred in 2018, dropping by 23.9%, while the largest increase was in 2019, rising by 12.9%.

Exports apricots to Turkey

Turkey's apricot exports declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, export volume reached 64 733 tons, down 4.3% from the previous year. The highest export volume was recorded in 2018 at 70 734 tons. The largest decrease occurred in 2019, falling by 4.4%, while the biggest increase was in 2018, rising by 11.3%.

From 2017 to 2020, Iraq, Russia, and Germany were consistently the main destinations for Turkey's apricot exports in volume terms. Iraq accounted for 40.0% of exports, Russia for 36.0%, and Germany for 5.4%, together representing 81.4% of total export flows.

After a two-year decline, Turkey's apricot exports in value terms increased in 2020. Exports reached 55 640 thousand US dollars, a 46.1% improvement compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports grew by 25.9%, with a compound annual growth rate of 8.0%. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 38 096 thousand US dollars. The largest decline occurred in 2018, dropping by 7.2%.
