Earlier Report Observations

The wine market volume in Cyprus showed considerable volatility between 2018 and 2023. Starting at 27 737 t in 2018, it dipped slightly the following year before contracting sharply to 20 421 t in 2020. This represented a decline of over 25% from the previous year, marking the lowest point in the period.

A recovery phase began in 2021, with the market expanding by 5% to 21 445 t. Growth accelerated in 2022, as volume jumped by 26% to reach 27 000 t, nearly returning to the pre-contraction level. However, this rebound was partially reversed in 2023, when the market size eased by 4.5% to 25 778 t.

Underlying these shifts were changes in domestic production and trade flows. Local output fell from 11 000 t in 2018 to 9 142 t in 2023, while imports also trended downward after a steep drop in 2020. Exports declined substantially over the period, which moderated the net effect on market volume.
