The market for wheat bran, sharps, and residues in Tajikistan expanded from 196.6 thousand tonnes in 2018 to 208.0 thousand tonnes in 2023. This growth was primarily driven by rising domestic wheat production, which reached 905.6 thousand tonnes in 2022, providing more raw material for milling and increasing the supply of milling by-products. Concurrently, Tajikistan's position as a leading importer of Kazakh wheat, with purchases around 986.7 thousand tonnes, ensured a stable influx of feedstock for local processors.

Market volume experienced a temporary contraction to 193.6 thousand tonnes in 2020 due to a sharp increase in exports, which rose to 3.8 thousand tonnes. The subsequent recovery in 2021, with market volume jumping to 204.9 thousand tonnes, was supported by an 8.8% growth in overall agricultural production the previous year, which sustained domestic demand for wheat-derived products.

Production continued its upward trend through 2022 and 2023, reaching 217.5 thousand tonnes. This resilience was bolstered by government measures to reserve food supplies and mitigate risks from regional trade dynamics, such as Kazakhstan's export restrictions on flour and grain. These policies helped secure milling feedstock despite external factors like Russia's temporary ban on hard wheat exports, supporting consistent output of wheat residues.
