The market for wheat bran, sharps, and residues in Paraguay grew steadily from 41 996 t in 2018 to 60 513 t in 2022. This expansion was supported by a doubling of domestic wheat production in 2018, which was fueled by expanded planted area and the launch of three new national wheat varieties: Itapúa 90, Itapúa 95, and Canindé 31. These developments increased the raw material available for milling, thereby raising bran output. Market volume experienced a slight contraction to 59 844 t in 2023. This coincided with industry focus on achieving record wheat exports the following year, a shift that likely reduced the share of wheat processed domestically for bran production. Throughout the period, the Paraguayan Chamber of Exporters and Traders of Cereals and Oilseeds (Capeco) remained a central market actor, involved in over 60% of the country's wheat trade and promoting the sector's development.
