Major players like Flour Mills of Nigeria, Olam International, and BUA Group, controlling about 75% of milling capacity, influenced production levels.

After 2020, market volume fell to 1.0 million metric tons by 2023, primarily because exports surged from 10,000 metric tons to 130,000 metric tons over the period. Nigeria strengthened its role as a supplier to neighboring markets such as Morocco, aided by improved foreign exchange stability and the operation of wheat mills in free trade zones, which redirected supply abroad.
