The German wheat bran, sharps and residues market volume grew from 1.287 million tons in 2018 to 1.412 million tons in 2019, a period when the country solidified its role as a top global exporter, highlighting the scale of its milling industry and strong production output. Market volume then eased to 1.341 million tons in 2020 and remained around 1.330 million tons in 2021.

After expanding to 1.459 million tons in 2022, the market contracted to 1.350 million tons in 2023 before recovering to 1.409 million tons in 2024. The latter increase aligned with advancements in milling technology, including improved roller mills and sieving methods, which enhanced processing efficiency and product quality.

The highest value was recorded in 2019 at 232.8 million US dollars, with the largest increase of 12.9% occurring that same year.

Between 2017 and 2020, production grew by 6.1%, with an annualized rate of 2.0%. The lowest output was recorded in 2018 at 1 354 thousand tonnes, which saw a decline of 0.2%. The largest increase occurred in 2019, with production rising by 4.3%.

In 2020, wheat bran, sharps and residues exports from Germany amounted to 528.6 thousand tonnes, showing an increase of 22.1% compared to 2019. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, exports grew by 24.7%, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.6%. The largest decline was recorded in 2019, when exports fell by 14.2%.

From 2017 to 2020, the Netherlands remained the leading buyer of wheat bran, sharps and residues from Germany, accounting for 88.4% of total exports in volume. The remaining exports were distributed across many other countries.
