Between 2018 and 2020, the domestic walnut market volume in Argentina fluctuated primarily due to changes in export activity. The adoption of mechanical harvesting and the achievement of GlobalG.A.P. certification by Nueces de Catamarca in 2018 enhanced production efficiency and access to international supermarket chains, facilitating a sharp rise in exports to 7 386 t in 2019. This export surge reduced the volume available for the domestic market to 11 276 t that year. Exports remained elevated at 6 084 t in 2020, allowing the market volume to recover slightly to 12 538 t.

In the following years, export dynamics continued to shape domestic availability. The sanitary opening of the Israeli market for shelled pecans in 2022, along with ongoing efforts to access new markets in Asia and Latin America, sustained the sector's export orientation. However, walnut production in the key province of Mendoza fell by 2 000 t in 2022 due to climatic factors, constraining total supply. By 2023, exports rose again to 6 638 t, drawing down the domestic market volume to 11 908 t, while national production held stable at around 18 500 t.

In 2020, Argentina produced 18 483 tons of walnuts, marking a 0.8% decrease from the previous year. Production peaked in 2019 at 18 625 tons, which also saw the largest annual increase of 1.2%.

However, over the 2017-2020 period, production value fell by 21.7%, with an average annual decline of 7.8%. Exports walnuts from Argentina

After two consecutive years of growth, Argentina's walnut exports declined in 2020, totaling 6 084 tons, a 17.6% decrease from 2019. Despite this recent drop, exports surged by 87.4% over the 2017-2020 period, averaging 23.3% annual growth. The peak was in 2019 at 7 386 tons, which saw the largest annual increase of 59.0%.

Following a two-year upward trend, Argentina's walnut export value declined in 2020, reaching 19 265 thousand US dollars, down 12.2% from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, export value grew by 46.1%, with an average annual rate of 13.5%. The highest value was recorded in 2019 at 21 950 thousand US dollars, which also saw the largest annual increase of 33.5%.
