From 2018 to 2019, uranium ore production in Central Asia, dominated by Kazakhstan's state-owned Kazatomprom, rose from 25 155 tonnes to 26 308 tonnes. This increase was underpinned by strong demand from the atomic energy sector, a key driver for the industry, alongside Kazatomprom's use of efficient in-situ leaching methods and control over large deposits like Yuzhny Inkai and Akdala.

Production fell to 22 989 tonnes in 2020, largely due to disruptions from the global COVID-19 pandemic. Despite this, Kazatomprom maintained its leadership in uranium output. A recovery followed in 2021, with production reaching 25 345 tonnes, supported by the country's extensive uranium deposit base and heightened state control that prioritized national companies for exploration and mining licenses.

In 2022, output experienced a modest decline to 24 788 tonnes. During this period, international sanctions on nuclear fuel elevated Kazakhstan's critical role as a key uranium exporter, reinforcing its strategic cooperation with countries such as Russia and China.

In Central Asia, uranium ores and concentrates production reached 22 989 tonnes in 2020, marking a 12.6% decrease from the previous year. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, overall production declined by 14%, with a compound annual growth rate of -4.9%. The most significant annual increase occurred in 2019, when production rose by 4.6%.
