Earlier Report Observations

Asian production of uranium ores and concentrates increased from 27 579 t in 2018 to 28 617 t in 2019. This growth was supported by the push for clean energy policies and carbon emission reduction incentives, which raised expectations for the market. In 2019, the increase in nuclear fuel consumption, driven by higher output from nuclear power plants, further propelled demand.

Output dropped to 25 390 t in 2020. The market rebounded in 2021 to 27 611 t, coinciding with a broader recovery in the uranium sector where prices began rising from around $30 per pound, stimulating activity.

Production saw a modest decrease to 27 153 t in 2022. During this period, major global producers such as Canada and Kazakhstan eased production restrictions, which increased worldwide supply, while uranium production covered approximately 85% of commercial reactor requirements, relying on inventories and reprocessing for the shortfall.
