In 2018, the state-owned Kazatomprom implemented a strategic 20% output cut across its operations to support global uranium prices, establishing a controlled production baseline. Production increased to 22 808 t the following year, driven by the company's plans to launch mining at site No. 3 of the Inkai deposit under a new 25-year subsoil use contract.

The market volume dropped sharply to 19 477 t in 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic caused a global economic downturn, significantly reducing sales and demand for uranium.

Production rebounded to 21 819 t in 2021 with the recovery of global demand. Output then saw a marginal decrease, stabilizing at 21 227 t in 2022, a period marked by geopolitical sanctions that raised uranium prices and the introduction of new legislation fundamentally changing the regulatory framework for uranium extraction rights.

In 2020, Kazakhstan produced 19 477 tonnes of uranium ores and concentrates, marking a 14.6% decrease compared to the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, overall production declined by 16.5%, with a compound annual growth rate of -5.8%. The largest annual increase occurred in 2019, when production rose by 5.1%.
